Interpreted well data package offshore Iran

ENRES International in cooperation with Global Geo Services ASA and partners offers a non-exclusive interpreted well data package of 23 wells offshore Iran.

Interpretation of the wells is being carried out using the most advanced methods of stratigraphical analysis and interpretation of wireline logs. The report is a unique product with detailed correlations through a large part of offshore Iran.

INTRODUCTION

ENRES International in cooperation with GGS and partners is carrying out a non-exclusive stratigraphic study with data from 23 wells offshore Iran.

Offshore Iran is one of the major hydrocarbon-producing areas of the world, with major reserves to be found. The stratigraphy of the area is typically based on lithostratigraphy supported by biostratigraphy. Various stratigraphic nomenclatures have been established for different parts of the region, with many uncertainties regarding their relationship. The need for and benefits of a unifying stratigraphy for exploration and production are obvious.

Using new techniques of mathematical analysis of wireline logs coupled with new approaches available through the discipline of cyclostratigraphy, it is possible to arrive at near-synchronous correlations at both local and regional scales. Spectral analysis of facies-sensitive logs reveals the climate-driven cycles in the rock record; analysis of spectral changes and spectral trends leads to the characterisation of individual sequences and hence to a detailed framework for correlation, often at a resolution better than 10m. These methods are available through ENRES’ proprietary software tool CycloLog®, which will be used throughout the study.

DATABASE

Our database consists of 23 wells from zones 1 to 5 of GGS’ Persian Carpet Survey PC 2000 seismic package, i.e. from the northern Persian Gulf across the Qatar/South Fars Arch to the Strait of Hormuz. The wells cover the stratigraphic interval from the lower Tertiary to the upper Silurian.
Our database enables detailed work on the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic sections. General work is possible on the lower Tertiary and Permian intervals.

OBJECTIVES

  • Using CycloLog, to establish a unifying high resolution correlation framework which is applicable in the entire study area.
  • To identify the newly established near-synchronous stratigraphic horizons and intervals, as far as possible, in all wells in the study area, with focus on the Cretaceous, Jurassic and Triassic intervals.
  • To provide a set of stratigraphic picks for consistent tie-in with the Persian Carpet 2000 seismic data.

Additionally, the high-resolution zonations and correlations can be used in reservoir characterisation, and extrapolation across country boundaries is possible.

    DELIVERABLES

The study deliverables will comprise a final report entirely in digital (PDF) format, on CD-ROM. This will include the following elements:

  • Report text, including explanation of methodology
  • Well composites showing all new stratigraphic picks
  • Correlation panels (if requested, also on paper)
  • Well data in CycloLog format, together with a run-time version of CycloLog®
  • Tables of stratigraphic picks in all wells

Original well data in LAS format is available from GGS and partners.
